Empowerment School Announcement Tomorrow

Kathy: This is from CCSD...

Six schools gain empowerment status in 2008-09
Wednesday news conference to announce funding source

WHAT: The Clark County School District will announce details of private funding to support 10 empowerment schools starting in the current school year, including six new empowerment schools. Future plans for CCSD’s empowerment program also will be discussed.

So private money - millions, in fact - will be used to support public empowerment schools. On the last day of school last year, we told you how the empowerment program was expanding despite state budget cuts - the philosophy would move ahead, just not the funding. Read/watch our report here.

Private money/partnerships have always been a component of the empowerment program - think Culley and MGM. But there was public funding, as well. It's just that this year, money to expand the empowerment program was cut due to state financial woes. I get the sense that the district is thrilled. I don't blame them.

But what kind of precedent does this set? That's a good question for the Governor who is also supposed to be in attendance tomorrow...
